What is the Sustainable Logistics Hackathon 2024?

The Sustainable Logistics Hackathon 2024 is a technology event for students und pupils. One day of competitions, coding, learning and sharing with extraordinary people from all over the world. For 7 hours straight, around 100 participants (max. 80 people on-site) exchange ideas, share and expand their knowledge and enjoy our coding competition as well as the amazing Austrian food.

Who can attend?

This hackathon is designed for students and pupils with creative minds. Students and pupils who have a technical profile are welcome to apply, not only engineers (e.g., web designers are welcome, too).

Do I need to be a Data Scientist or Machine Learning expert to take part in the competition?

No, with a bit of coding know how, you will still be able to achieve great results. To make it easy to enter the competition, we will publish Python and Java templates of the truck agent scripts, which participants can then take as a basis for their team submission.

Where does the hackathon take place?

The hackathon will take place at the Hotel Andaz in Vienna (Arsenalstrasse 10, 1100 Vienna). The event will start on 17 October 2024 at 9:30 o’clock Vienna time and will end with an award ceremony at 16:30 o’clock. Participants are welcome to arrive at 9:00 am to meet the other participants over a coffee.

How much does it cost?

Our Hackathon is free for all participants, but we do not pay for the on-site attendees´ transportation, parking fees and/or accommodation costs.

I registered, but can't attend the event, what do I do?

Please let us know. On-site spots are limited and it would be nice if another candidate could go instead (but no, you cannot choose who that candidate might be).

Will there be a live stream from the event?

Yes, live streaming will be available but only for the particpants. The feed will be focused on the activities taking place on the main stage, such as the opening keynote and the announcement of the winning teams at the end of the day.

Will we take photos at the on-site event and if yes, where will they be published?

Yes, there will be a photographer at the on-site event, who will document the day for us. Some of those photos will be published on social media like Facebook, LinkedIn and Instagram.

Are there prizes for winning in one of the categories of the competition?

Yes, participants of the three winning teams will be able to win prizes in the form of coupons. As we do not want to support specific online retailers, the winners will be able to pick from a list provided by us. For more information about the prizes, please check out our prizes page.

How can my team get support from the hackathon support team during the competition?

For general questions, please use the Slack channel #support and we will make sure to answer them as fast as possible. You can also create a private channel `#support_[unique_team_id]` and add your team members and our support staff with the Slack handle `@support-staff` there, if you want to submit confidential information. Additional instructions on how to take part in the competition and about all the rules will be published on the Hackathon day on Slack and via email.

Still have questions?

Just join the Hackathon Slack workspace and post your questions there. We will happily answer all of them. You find the link also in the registration confirmation you received via email.
